Spooky Times are Here!

So, I am sorry for neglecting this for so long!  I feel like I always have so much to say then I get in front of my computer and I freeze cuz its like I have too much to say.  What a nice little circle.

Anyhoo, as always, quite a bit has happened since I last wrote.  I can't tell you how excited I am that it is nearly Halloween and yet, i have no real plans!  I had wanted to go to Universal or Knott's, but it doesn't look llike that's gonna happen.  I do have two parties Halloween weekend, but I don't even have a costume and strangely, I'm not really looking for one.  I dunno, its weird to be excited and not excited about something at the same time.  I did, however, decorate my living room on October 2nd, which left my room practically naked.  Lol.  For those of you who don't know, I have a lot of Jack Skellington collectibles around my room, on shelves and such. So when Halloween rolls around my mom lets me decorate the house with it.  So not my mantle looks like a Jack Skellington shrine and my room is sad without it!  More has been added since the first day too!

In other news, my dad recently took me to the Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA.  Not only was this huge because of the whole Tim Burton thing, but if you know anything about my dad and me, you know we don't exactly hang out very often.  We don't exactly have a good relationship, or any relationship for that matter.  I'm not going to get into the details, but basically we spend one day a year together, opening day at the LA County Fair.  Other than that, we talk of course, but we don't spend time together.  I know he has good intentions, but he's just not too good at following through on things.  So a while ago he mentioned that he had heard about the exhibit and that we should go.  He found a day that I had off and took me.  We went to lunch afterwards and everything.  It meant a lot to me that he planned something and followed through.  And of course, it was TIM BURTON!  Seriously, I walked through that place so excited for every little bit of art.  It was truly amazing and all of you should visit before it ends on the 31st!
Dad and me at the Fair
Last weekend Andrea and I went to the Blink 182 concert.  It was amazing!  I was bummed cuz My Chemical Romance didn't play "Sing" and we wanted to record it for Tricia, but Blink played 2 of my 3 favorite songs by them so that was great.  At the end Travis did one of his songs from his solo album, which got Andrea pretty excited (she likes the rap more than i do).  So yeah, it was pretty awesome.  Even ran into an old friend which was a nice surprise.

And yet another change of topic... Since it is October, I have been watching more scary movies than normal.  Yesterday I watched The Hills Have Eyes 2, Carrie, and The Shining.  Today I watched the ending of the Shining, Scream 4, and the first season of The Walking Dead.  I'm super excited to see Paranormal Activity 3 this week.  Probably more excited than I should be.  I really don't know what my fascination with horror movies is.  I have been watching them literally for as long as I can remember.  Some of my earliest memories involve watching Child's Play, or Dr. Giggles (a truly ridiculous movie).  And I was never truly scared of any of them.  Yes, they were scary, but I didn't have nightmares, (which is why my mom allowed me to watch them), and they never truly bothered me.  In high school, I started watching more horror movies, and I remember being scared of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but in the years since, I have been truly desensitized by it all.  I remember being incredibly disturbed by The Hills Have Eyes, and then less than a week later I watched Saw II for the first time and was hooked on these gory, slasher movies.  They are disturbing, yes, but not scary.  The Last House on the Left (the original) was incredibly disturbing, especially given that it came out in the 70s.  The remake was just the same, but had a better ending.  But I love these movies.  I have had 2 nightmares in my life, but it was the same one just happened on two separate occasions and it didn't happen until the end of high school so I don't think it was caused by horror movie overload.  I'm reading this book called, "Shock Value: How a Few Eccentric Outsiders Gave Us Nightmares, Conquered Hollywood, and Invented Modern Horror."  I'm about halfway through and so far it is such a great read!  Its about how horror was reshaped in the 70s to become what we know today.  If you have any interest in horror movies then you should totally check it out.  If you don't, then I'm sorry for this paragraph, lol.

So anyhoo, I have some changes I'm expecting to happen in the very near future so as soon as all of that is settled I promise to let you all in on it.  Until next time, hope you guys are all having a great October!

Just Cruisin

Its been 3 weeks since my family and I got back from our cruise and man, what a fun time it was!!  It was only my second cruise, but both times I didn't wanna leave the boat.  If you've ever been on one, I think you'll understand why.

So starting from the beginning.  A limo came and picked us up 10:30 Sunday morning.  Yeah, we're that cool.  Haha, I think Diana was the most excited for a limo ride, she gave us all celebrity personas just for the occasion.

We get in, and of course, beverages are provided, so Christina and I being the lushes we are, started our vacation with cocktails!  Christopher Bear joined in as well.

We set sail around 4 and headed down to Cabo.  Dinner that night was a bit disappointing.  Now, forgive me in advance if I sound spoiled or unappreciative.  But if you've ever been on a cruise you know how great the service is.  EVERYONE treats you like royalty.  Your table staff knows you by name and after the first night, know your drink preference.  They literally put the napkin in your lap.  Seriously, its probably my favorite part of the cruise.  Even the people who clean your room are amazingly sweet and again, always remember your name.  Dinner the first night was horrible by this standard.  They took forever to take our orders, took forever to give us our food, never introduced themselves, didn't bring half of what we ordered and even the food wasn't that great.  I had beef and barley soup, chicken a la grecque, and creme brulee.  The beef and barley soup had 1 piece of barley and 2 tiny pieces of beef, so really it was just broth.  I know, I know, I sound quite snooty but there are certain things you expect on a cruise and this service was crappy by normal restaurant standards.  So yeah, slightly disappointing, but we just went to bed that night hoping for a better rest of the week.

Monday was our first of 3 days at sea.  Dad and I started off by jogging on the jogging track.  It started as a walk, but he surprised me by offering to run and actually did really well.  Who knew?  It was hot out, but that sea breeze made it really nice.  We all went to breakfast and thus started a week long binge on great buffet food.  Breakfast is my favorite meal so as hard as I tried to keep it under control, its hard to say no to all your favorite breakfast foods all in one place.  =)  Anyhoo, Manuel, Christina, and I went to a jewelry presentation because there was gonna be free champagne.  Haha, anything for alcohol, right?  Then we did a scavenger hunt to pass the time, but didn't win.  Then I did what I do best....

I promise I didn't do this too often but what goes better with lovely weather than a good book?  So then came dinner, and I admit, I was a little nervous, cuz dinner on a cruise ship is an experience that needs to be enjoyed!  Luckily things were much better all around.  We had 3 great servers who were just adorable.  They must have just had an off night the previous night.  I had this delicious Indian pumpkin soup, caesar salad, and pork loin. Cherris jubilee for dessert.  YUM!!!  Then was a late night, 18+ comedy show, which was HILARIOUS.  I'm not a huge fan of comedy but the ships always have great entertainment and they brought in two comedians and really, they were super funny.  It was a nice small club, so it had that comedy club feel to it.

Tuesday was our first day in Cabo San Lucas.  Again I started the day with a jog/walk with Dad, then breakfast, and then off to our excursions!!  Manuel, Christina, and I went snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez.

It was about an hour boat ride and the water was super choppy but we saw a lot of fish and it was really fun.  Plus, on the way back they had open bar!!  Haha, so you know Christina and I took advantage of that.  Free drinks are my favorite.  The crew was super great to and kept coming over to talk to me in Spanish cuz they knew I didn't speak it and apparently liked my reaction when I didn't understand.  Plus, we kept asking for more drinks and I think we're the only ones that had more than 2 so yeah, good times.  We even took a shot with the crew!  Don't we make friends easy!

I liked this one cuz it has the pretty Cabo landscape behind us plus our boat!

Sun + Tequila + Swimming = crashing once I got back to the cabin.  Definitely had me a good nap after that one.  Mom, Dad, and Diana went on a city tour for their excursion but they definitely didn't have as much fun as we did!  Dinner was great that night.  I had lobster for the first time and it was ok, a bit overrated I think.  Had a green salad and french onion soup as well, and the soup was amazing!  After dinner, we decided to see the comedy show again cuz it was so good.  It was the same two guys but different acts and this time my mom went too, so that was nice.

Wednesday I woke up at 6:30!!!!  Didn't my internal clock know I was on vacation?  Apparently not, but that ok cuz Dad was up too so we went for our exercise session again, then more delicious buffet breakfast, then off to Cabo for day 2!!!  This time, we all went together.  Diana and Manuel did a dolphin encounter excursion, but the rest of us were able to watch.  Man, it was HOT!  I'm sure I sweated out my entire body weight and then some.  After that we had the rest of our day to shop and do whatever we liked.  I bought a hat and then my brother made fun of me endlessly for looking like a tourist.  Well hello, I WAS a tourist!!  Lol.  Christina told us to get together to take a picture and he said I had to take the hat off first.  The result was this picture....

aww, can't you just feel the sibling love there?  Lol.  So anyways, lots of shopping, lots of bargaining.  Then lunch which included tacos and beer.  Oh yum.

$860.00!!!!  Expensive lunch! =P
Then it was off to our ship.  Now, I didn't write down what I had for dinner that night, but I know I definitely had escargot.  This was the second time I'd had it and it was every bit as delicious as the first time.  My family were wimps and thought it was disgusting so they didn't try it but trust me, if you ever get the chance, TRY IT!!  There was no comedy show that night but there was some sort of juggler guy, who was weird but entertaining, and my bro got to go onstage!!  He asked for a tough looking man and we were sitting in the second row, and lets face it, my bro has his tough moments, so he went onstage to help tie the guy up for his "get out of the straight jacket" routine.

He's wiping the sweat off...yuck
So very fun times.

Thursday, Dad and I got up early again for walking, but only did a mile cuz we had to get off the boat early for our excursion in Puerto Vallarta.  I think this is the one I was most excited for, cuz it was a tequila factory tour, tasting included!!  It was actually very educational....but to be honest, I had learned some of the tequila making processes a few years back from a novella my madre was watching, Destilando Amor, which took place on a tequila plantation.  Silly, I know, but at least I learned from somewhere!  Haha.  Anyhoo, our tour guy was funny.  Anyhoo, the tastings were actually really good.  I believe we had 5 at the first place and 5 at the second.  The second place we had these delicious margaritas that had chile powder in them, so it was like, and extra kick.  Delicious =).  I bought a coffee flavored tequila that was so delicious I'm tempted to have a glass of it every morning instead of my regular coffee.  You couldn't taste the tequila.  (Don't worry, I'm not that much of an alcoholic!)

Delicious!  Dinner that night was just a buffet cuz we got back on the ship after our dinner seating time.  I had pizza...yum....My brother was bummed cuz he didnt get to have the dessert he had fallen in love with...the chocolate melting cake.  Still good tho.  I just crashed that night, with all the tequila and so much sun, it was exhausting.

Friday was our second day at sea.  It was also my dad's birthday!!  We went for our run then everyone kinda just wandered around the ship.  I shopped a bit, read a bit, sat in the sun a bit.  It was just a catch up to relaxing time.

Saturday was our last day at sea, and our last day of cruising.  We did not go for a run that morning.  I wanted to relax a bit so we just ate breakfast then staked out a few chairs by the pool and pretty much stayed there all day.  Diana and I went on the water slide a few times, but it was COLD!!!  It was cloudy and just plain freezing.  I went in the pool for a bit but really just read my book by the pool, hoping the sun would come out so I could tan some more.  It was a quiet day, so I'll just jump down to dinner.  Now, I am a picky eater.  I always have been,  I don't like my food to touch, I don't like lunch meat, and just like my few normal things that I've always liked.  Nothing too adventurous.  In the past few years, I've kind of told myself I need to mature a bit and branch out, try a few new things or at least be open to them.  So i have.  I now put salsa on my eggs and burritos, I'll eat ham sandwiches if that's the only thing in the house, and I'll taste what others have ordered if its new and I hadn't tried it before.  Small miracles, I know.  Granted, this came in handy on my last cruise, two years ago when I tried escargot.  I'd say that was a big step in the right direction.  This time tho, I wanted to try something new.  They saved the best for last.  Frog's legs were on the menu.  Now, I had been intrigued by this the last time around but made the excuse, only one new things per trip.  So, I asked the waiter what he thought of me trying them, and he said he would put them on the table and whatever I did with them was up to me.  (He apparently never tried them.)  So that's what I did.
Right there, the just look like chicken, but once you picked them up, they really did look like frog's legs, so that was a bit intimidatng.  But I tried them!!
Lol, I love my face on the second one, cuz I swear I liked it.  I think that was just the realization that I had just bitten into a frog leg.  But then, guess who wants in on the action....

Little Miss All I Ate All Week Was Burgers actually ate some!!!  I had to bribe her with $15 but still, she didn't take that bribe for anything else!!  I was shocked
Overall, a great trip.  Relaxing and fun, plus some great family time.  Can't wait until my next cruise!!  They are seriously so addicting!!

Its Shark Week!

So I'm watching Red Riding Hood with Amanda Seyfried and this movie is weird!!  Haha, any of you seen it?  Crazy.

Anyhoo, its been a few weeks and mostly I've just been busy with, what else, school and work.  Story of my life these days.  I did go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter.....man oh man...I'm gonna miss those.  A few costumes.  I really want a wand.  But mostly just nice hanging out with friends.  I went with Jennie, her husband Jon, my cousin Celine, and Cory.  Celine is more of a Twilight friend (yuck!) but she enjoys the movies and put up with the nerdiness well, haha.  I only cried twice and I think the second one, which was right when the credits rolled, was the realization that it was over!!  I got into the Harry Potter life later than most, so its only been about 7 or 8 years at the most, but still!!  Its over!  The movie was absolutely amazing.  NOTHING like the book, but amazing nonetheless.  I think it was a bad idea to read the book the day the movie came out since I spent the first hour thinking, "That's different, they changed that, that didn't happen in the book," etc, so I was probably more distracted than I should have been.  Anyways, everyone should watch it and enjoy something that our kids will totally make fun of us for in 20 years.  =)

Last October, I was making my weekly stroll through Borders when i came across this book called "Creepy Cute Crochet." Now I'm a sucker for art and crafts, especially those random kits they sell at Barnes & Noble for origami and stuff.  They are pretty unique and make great presents, especially since they're not too expensive.  So I came across this book and figured I could make them easily enough, so I used my 30% off coupon and bought it.  Did I mention I don't crochet?  So I get home with this book and no supplies and think, "Crap."  Luckily, my mom is absolutely genius with crocheting so she gave me what I needed (including an intense tutorial session...did I also mention I'm impatient?) and sent me on my way.  I finished one basic body and one basic head (not even for the same creature) and then Halloween came and went and that was it!  So this year, determined to finish what I start, I pulled out the book early July with the goal of finishing at least one project before October.

Now, don't laugh, I really did try my hardest!!  He doesn't look exactly like the picture but for a first try, and an intermediate project, I'm happy with the results.  He just needs eyes and his wings (which are different sizes =/) attached.  The next one will be a cute skeleton couple and then maybe a devil.  So hopefully those will turn out a little better.

Since it's now August, I'll leave you with this month's calendar picture.  This is my Berny.  She's my love. <3

Summertime

So, its been awhile since my last post and I actually have people who tell me they read this!!  Yay, i have fans!!!  Or, ya know, really bored friends =).  Anyhoo, I can't believe its July already.  Its been a busy month so far.  I've had Sarah's wedding, NKOTBSB concert, and in about 51 hours I'll be watching the final Harry Potter!  Yes, I'm a nerd, leave me alone.

So, Sarah's wedding was absolutely lovely.  It was totally unique to them and I think my favorite part was the fan/program/puzzle we got before the ceremony started.  Mine had a crossword puzzle on the back of the program, Daniel's had a word search, the person next to me had a maze, and someone said there was a mad lib floating around.  So awesome.  Sarah, of course, looked gorgeous, and Brian didn't look to bad himself =).

Me and Daniel
the Gauts

I had a lot of fun at the wedding.  The Mystery Project (photo booth) was totally amazing and I just wish I had taken more pictures in it, or in general really.  I danced with a sexy British man, and I didn't even get any pictures with him!  Major bummer. (sexy British man knows who he is).

Anyhoo, kinda sad tho cuz that was the last night of hanging out with Daniel, cuz he moved the next day.  He only moved to Long Beach, but the majority of the time, when we hang out, its last minute after work, and that's kinda hard to do with more distance.  He's my movie buddy, so for the second time in my life, I'm on the lookout for a new movie buddy!  (Sorry Daniel!  I love you!!!)

Wednesday was the NKOTBSB concert, and I have to admit, I was probably more excited than my cousin.  (The tickets were a 16th birthday present for my cousin, who was amazing enough to remember Backstreet Boys were my absolute favorite back in the day.)  They seriously put on an amazing show.  I saw them last summer the the Gibson Amphitheater and it was a good show, but I remember thinking the dancing was a bit lacking, probably due to their slightly older ages.  Well, a lot changed this year, they were FANTASTIC!!!  Great dancing, great singing, great costumes, great lighting....just an amazing show.  And I was proud of myself for knowing most of the NKOTB songs, cuz I honestly don't remember listening to them much when I was younger.  I did have a Jordan Knight Barbie doll (rat tail and everything) but that's different than listening to the music. Funny fact, they had converted the boys bathrooms into girls' bathrooms, presumably because there would be so many more girls, and they ended up with one boys' bathroom on the floor we were on.  How funny is that?  I've never heard of venues doing things like that!

Thank you again Cousin!!!  I seriously had an amazing time, and I hope you enjoyed it even slightly as much as I did!

This week is the Harry Potter finale.  Its funny, I was never a huge fan before, but from the 4th movie on I can't seem to get enough of the series!  The Goblet of Fire was my first midnight showing ever, and I with with Jen, her then-boyfriend, and his best friend in Santa Barbara and we had a blast!  Since then, I've gone to all of them and there's something about a midnight showing you can't get with any other time.  Maybe its the camaraderie of it all, being around so many other nerds?  (Lol).  Seven weeks ago I decided to try to re-read the whole series (nerd, again, I know) and I honestly didn't think it would be enough time, but I started the Deathly Hallows on Friday and am on page 437 out of 759 so I should be fine.  Kinda proud of myself for that one actually.  =)  Even more excited cuz Jen is gonna go with me to this one!!!!   Yay for Harry Potter!!

Last picture of the night, this one doesn't have anything at all to do with anything in this post, but I made calendars for a couple friends for Christmas, so I made myself one and this pic is the one for July, so it just seemed appropriate.  Its from October, Tricia, Drea, and I went to Knott's Scary Farm, and as you can see, this was a potty break.... Have a good week everyone!
